Even though the temperatures have been erratic, the winds have been blowing and the Covid virus is still active.…I have been painting! This is the peak time for quail hunting in South Texas and my husband and I always find ourselves splitting our time between Huntsville and the Baffin Bay area in Riviera, Texas. Bird hunting and bird dogs are a passion we share and now I have a great little studio just steps away from our hunting cabin!

The paintings featured here reflect the diversity in the landscape and some of the wildlife to enjoy in the beautiful southern part of Texas. This is a rugged land with remarkable history and my appreciation of the area grows every season. From bays, beaches and lagunas to rolling pastures full of mesquite trees in motts and an abundance of wildlife…South Texas is a special place.

Today I saw the soft morning fog drifting over the trees and now I am watching the yellow, pink and orange sky as the sun sinks below the horizon. It looks like there will be a full moon, so we will sit around our campfire and look for constellations. The other day we saw a falling star and there is a constant movement of bird populations. For some of them this place is “south for the winter.” It feels that way for me too.
