One of the best things about being an artist is getting to travel to interesting places and paint the local scenery “en plein air.” Surprisingly, my most recent trip to BISBEE, ARIZONA moves to the top three in the list of places I want to return to. The occasion was the 2019 Bisbee Plein Air Festival to raise money for the Central School Project which supports artists and arts in the area.
My painting buddy, Julia Patterson, lives in Tucson and picked me up at the Tucson airport. We headed south and had a great time visiting Tombstone, Arizona. I loved the history there, so I had to come home and read all about Wyatt Earp and the “Gunfight at the OK Corral.”
But, I have to say that Bisbee, Arizona was just captivating. From a painter’s point of view, the light was incredible, the scenery was varied and the weather was just perfect! (Bisbee residents boast that they have the best climate in the USA.) That said, the people of Bisbee were even better than the climate!
Every morning for the entire week we headed out to paint and most days we stood before our easels until dark. I’ve included a few paintings that I did at various locations and I am also sharing photos from the town and area.
Quaint, eccentric, fun and friendly….I would tell each of you to plan a long weekend and check out this place! And, if you are an artist you should go paint this town! Oh, and be sure and call me so I can go with you! HAPPY THANKSGIVING AND HAPPY TRAILS!
