The Mysterious World and Art

"Cactus Flower" 20x20 Oil on Gallery Wrapped Canvas

Just as you do not know how the breath comes to the bones... So you do not know the work of God who makes everything. ~Ecclesiastes 11:5

Hello and Happy 2025.

I'm sharing a favorite Bible verse to help us focus on the word "everything" today. As as artist I am constantly scanning my surroundings and looking for something that might strike a spark of creativity in me. But, I have come to learn that the spark is everywhere, every minute, every day. More importantly, everything as seen so clearly in the verse above, comes from a hand that is much more creative than mine.

For example: Using, the photo below, I might see and be inspired by the almost neon colors of the trees and I might be able to apply paint to canvas in such a way that I almost mimic the luminous colors. However, no matter how hard I try I cannot make the sun shine just right through the hazy atmosphere and light up a grove of trees with bold, bright color.

Another example: Driving west into the Texas sun I might come across an old building that looks like this. I might even set up my easel and try to capture with paint the clear blue sky or the rusty tin on that roof or the rotting wood of the siding. I enjoy so much imitating the beauty of Creation, but I do not have an ounce of ability to clear the sky or cast the long shadows on the rusted deteriorating structure.

All of this to say simply that I love all the amazing beauty of the mysterious world we get to live in. And just like the "Cactus Flower" painting above, some of the most beautifully wonderful things bloom with prickly stickers from time to time. Keep looking! There's always something new to see.

Happy Trails!

Pam

Painting, Bird Dogs and Cool Summer Days

What?? It's been anything but cool in Texas, but Jeff and I managed to escape the heat and spend a couple of weeks in a cabin in Almont, North Dakota, where we enjoyed average temperatures between 52 and 78 degrees.

Confetti 14x11 Oil

As we drive home today to Huntsville, the temperature reading is 106. Regardless, we are glad to be back in Texas.

One of the best things about being an artist is that I can put my easel in the dirt just about anywhere and enjoy painting the scenery. And, that's just what I did while Jeff worked with the 16 English Pointer dogs we took with us. I was able to stand on high hills with beautiful views, get up close and personal with fields or sunflowers, paint Spanish Olive trees, old churches, old houses and just sink into the wonderful countryside. We cooked outside and enjoyed not going to restaurants (there weren't any). Our cute cabin was over 100 years old and very comfortable.

Yes, it was a long trip - about 23 hours each way, but so worth it. The United State of America has so much to offer and we saw lots of American flags waving, which was confirming to see that so many others feel the same.

I hope you are having a good summer and I'll see you again in the Fall.

Happy Trails!

Spring Vibrations...Out to Paint!

Maybe it's Spring. I'm not sure, but things are blooming all around Texas today and the weather is absolutely gorgeous. I've already packed my gear and am ready to do some "plein air" painting!

The CAL INTERNATIONAL SHOW is open at the Madeley Gallery located at 127 Simonton in downtown Conroe and my painting, "Costa Del Sol," was juried in as one of the 70 pieces for exhibit. The reception for the show is March 11 and the show is open for the entire month of March. I hope you will stop by the Gallery and see all the beautiful work and you'll see why I am so happy to have been accepted into this show.

See invitation below

On March18th, I will be painting in the downtown Conroe area for the GCAA Arts Festival. This, also, is a nice event to attend. There are creative vendors, painting demonstrations and artists, like me, painting outdoors for the public to enjoy. I had a great day last year and am hoping for more wonderful weather and lots of family fun.

Earlier this year, I was honored to have been selected as a "Difference Maker" in my hometown of Huntsville, Texas. Having a long time real estate career and lots of community involvement over the years put me in the lives of so many people and I hope that I did make a positive impact.

What the World Needs Now ....

I am remembering an old song as I write to you today. It goes like this

"What the world needs now is love sweet love.

It's the only thing that there's just too little of."

(Jackie DeShannon)

From my view in Nerja, Spain, and the subject of this painting, the world did seem to be in love with itself on this beautiful day.

Costa del Sol, 24x36 Oil

One of you recently wrote to say:

"So happy that you have the personal freedom to allow your artistic talents to emerge wherever you happen to be."

What a thought to consider. Personal freedom is something I hope to never take for granted and whether I'm in a far away place or watching the sun rise from a duck blind with my grandson, I seem to be able to find a lovely subject to paint. I am thankful.

I wish nothing less for each of you. Your encouragement and support makes me happy and I truly hope that some of my paintings have brought a good memory, person, view or place to your thoughts.

Love, sweet love...I'm sending it your way.

Happy New Year!

Painting My Heart Out!

It’s Fall….isn’t it?? The Texas temperatures are finally cooling a bit (only 90 degrees for a high today), but I’m not complaining. The mornings are getting crisp and the late afternoon light is gorgeous. So, I’m getting out and painting “En Plein Air.” I simply love standing outside and slinging paint around my canvas.

Other than becoming the President of the fabulous Conroe Art League which has its home in the Madeley Gallery in downtown Conroe, I have been doing a little traveling. I set my easel in the dirt in California, Fredericksburg and any place I could find a little shade in our beautiful, varied state of Texas.

Painting Pals.... Are we there yet?

Topping the list of exciting places to paint was a trip to Competa and Nerja in Spain. The artist retreat I attended was focused on abstracting the landscape and figure. Since I already like to paint in a fairly loose style, I put my brushes away and grabbed my palette knives. Oh wow! This is fun!  (Paintings from Spain coming soon.)

So, I hope you are cooling off and getting ready for some beautiful full moons, brightly colored leaves and keep an eye out for me…I’ll be out there more and more.

Enjoy some of my new art pieces and Happy Fall, Y’all!
